Simplicity 4638

This one came from Ebay. It's from 1954! I haven't made it yet, but I'd like to. Green taffeta, maybe? That would be pretty, but fancy. We'll see!

Sewing Made Easy?

On Saturday, we went to a few garage sales. We didn't find much, but look what I found! (Actually, my mom found it first...)

It's really very interesting, and it's not just about sewing clothes. It talks about sewing accessories, like purses and hats; blankets and quilts; and even how to make a slipcover for a chair!

And, the best part! It only cost twenty-five cents! At the sale, the books weren't priced. (Or at least I didn't see the prices.) So I offered fifty cents for it. The man said, "No...(insert me thinking "How much is this going to cost?" here)...you can have it for a quarter!"

Olathe Youth Symphony

Earlier this month, I tried out for the Olathe Youth Symphony.
I got a letter from the Olathe Youth Symphony on Friday saying that I was accepted for the Philharmonic Orchestra!

Etsy

I have an Etsy shop called CutieCritters where I'll be selling some crochet toys and other things.

I'll probably add some more things soon! Feel free to take a look!
(The pig is part of a set of four finger puppets. You can see them all in my shop.)

Not a Walkin' Dog

Moby, our four year-old English Bulldog, is not a walking dog.
Even if we take him around the cul-de-sac, he gets tired and pants! So we borrowed our neighbor's wagon and took him for a spin! We all have decided that we should have trained him to ride in it when he was younger. Oh well. Good boy!! :)

Tomten Jacket

I made a red toddler-sized jacket using a yarn called "I Love This Yarn." It's from Knitting Without Tears by Elizabeth Zimmermann. It was really fun and easy to make. I think it is cute!

This was my first sweater. Now I'm working on a sweater for myself. It will be made out of green wool.

May Flowers

Recently, I went out into our backyard to take some pictures; they turned out really well! Here are a few. Look closely at the third picture!

Home Economics

One day in February, our family went to a thrift store. I saw some vintage sewing patterns in girls size 6-8 from the 50's or 60's. (Why didn't I buy those? They were a dollar apiece!)

Then I saw a vintage home economics book from 1960 and bought it for 2 dollars! It's so much fun to look at. Some chapters are about making clothes, and others are about planning (and budgeting) your wardrobe.

Still others are about different types of fabric. There are also techniques in the back. Overall, I really like this book!
